
A group of Haitians took to the streets, protesting against gun violence to the government following the deaths of over 4,200 people who have died across Haiti through gun violence.
Armed gangs control nearly all of the capital and surrounding areas and discontent and anger is spreading over the transitional government’s failure to hold them off.
The rate of deaths which was confirmed by a recent United Nations report revealed that in addition to deaths 1,356 have sustained injuries. The violence, according to reports has forced many to evacuate their homes which has in hand resulted in a static economy and mass hunger.
Protestors have since broken out into protests, criticizing Haitian authorities for failing to provide adequate security to citizens. The protests began peacefully, but gunfire erupted later in the day with whizzing bullet causing the large crowd to flee in panic as protesters clashed with the police.
UN-backed security mission are presently under-manned and underfunded, leaving the fate of Haiti in the hands of the Haitian government which is yet to respond to public cries.
