World record moderation and globally recognized record platform, Guinness World Records (GWR) has refuted claims of awarding Chef Smith with the record title of longest cooking marathon (individual).
Chef Ebenezer Smith broke the news of his culinary feat in a press conference at La Palm Beach Hotel on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, claiming he had emerged GWR’s new record holder for longest cooking marathon (individual) after 820 hours of cooking.
The claims which sparked conspiracies triggered GWR to commence investigations into the matter.
Enquiries made by Ghanaian media to GWR about the authenticity of the record have brought out the news of this awarded title being fake.
In an official GWR email which has made waves online, PR Manager of the record platform, Madalyn Biefled said, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate. The current and true record holder is: The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023.”
In a turn of events, Chef Smith as of yesterday was picked up by the police mid-conference and has not issued any formal statements regarding his arrest or self-acclaimed title.
Chef Smith started his cook-a-thon journey on 1 February 2024. He cooked for 820 hours, ending his marathon on 6 March 2024, even though he initially targeted 1,200 hours.
