Ghana Weightlifting head coach, Michael Johnson Abotsi, has called for support for his athletes as they prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games qualifier in Madagascar.
The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) has selected four weightlifters to represent Ghana at the event.
The selected weightlifters are Captain Christian Amoah, Winifred Ntumi, and Sandra Mensimah Owusu.
Three of the four lifters were selected after series of domestic trials last week.
Speaking in an interview with Happy 98.9FM on preparations ahead of the event, Coach Abotsi said the players are in need of supplements and allowance to achieve their target.
“We are at Madagscar training hard and seriously preparing for the competition. All the athletes are in good shape as we wait for the IAAF”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports.
“We have the opportunity of securing two slots from the competition. Currently, we need supplements and allowances for the athletes. They need this support to improve”.
Amoah and Osei were just a few points away from landing safely in Tokyo, and are heavily tipped to seal it off in May.
Osei is said to have booked a place in the Games after an imposing performance in an individual event, but that would only be confirmed in Madagascar.
