Independent Presidential candidate,  Jacob Osei Yeboah is saying that the Ghana Union Traders Association (GUTA) has now turned into a vigilante group.

During a phone in interview on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ he renamed GUTA as ‘GUTAV’ meaning the Ghana Union Traders Association Vigilantes.

He said, “GUTA has now turned into a vigilante group. They now go around closing shops owned by foreigners engaged in retail trade.”

He added, “If the vigilantism bill is working, the President should enforce it by making the police and other law enforcement bodies chase out these foreigners engaged in retail trading.”

According to him, GUTA has taken matters into its own hands and evicting these traders because the government is not being responsive.

GUTA has given government a week to enforce laws barring foreigners from engaging in retail trade in Ghana. The association says if it does not see any action by the authorities to deal with the situation, they will advise themselves on the next line of action which will be staged nationwide.
