The Ghana Union of Traders’ Association (GUTA) has applauded Government on its initiative to ban the importation of chicken and rice to the country.
Speaking on Happy FM’s current affairs show, “Epa Hoa Daben”, Mr. David Amoabeng, the Greater Regional chairman of GUTA stated: “we will commend and thank Government for this initiative. Our country will progress if our leaders will listen to what the traders say. And that is what Government has done”.
He added that he was impressed with the time length that Government gave for the ban as that will ensure that private investors who have already imported these products do not lose out.
He however advised that the Government should “put in place the right measures to make the process a success”.
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture recently announced plans to ban the importation of chicken and rice into the country in the next three years. The Ministry however revealed that the ban is geared toward promoting locally produced products and reduction in importation rather than a complete ban on chicken and rice importation.
