GTEC orders salary freeze for CETAG members amidst ongoing strike

CETAG withdraws all services in protest against July salary Freeze

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has instructed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to withhold the July 2024 salaries of all teaching staff at the Colleges of Education (CETAG), except for the College Principals.

This decision comes as a response to CETAG’s ongoing strike, which began in June 14, 2024, over delays in implementing an arbitral award and agreed-upon service conditions.

In a letter dated July 22, 2024, GTEC directed the Accountant General’s Department to halt the salaries of CETAG members for July 2024 and stated that College Principals should not approve these salaries.

“By this letter, College Principals are not to validate the July 2024 salaries of all teaching staff.

We count on your usual co-operation,”part of the letter read.
