The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced a planned power outage for three weeks due to a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria.
According to the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo), the reduction is caused by maintenance work in Nigeria and is expected to last three weeks. GRIDCo and ECG are working to minimize the impact on consumers.
The gas supply reduction from Nigeria has led to a decrease in Ghana’s power generation capacity, potentially leading to controlled outages, also known as load management, until the maintenance work is completed.
“GRIDCo and ECG, however, wish to assure the public that we are collaborating with other stakeholders in the power value chain to optimize available resources and ensure minimal impact of the reduction in gas supply on consumers,” part of the statement highlighted.
