Security Expert, Richard Kumador, has warned that the presence of grenades at our beaches may indicate a looming terrorist attack.
In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he noted that while there may be other factors influencing the presence of grenades on our beaches, the country must pay particular attention to the possibility of a terrorist attack.
Stating the three scenarios which could account for the grenades at the beaches, he said: “It may have been that the military guys went for bracing and they overlooked it and left it there or people who participate in beach activities could have carried it there. Also, somebody could have been running a terrorist attack on us because beaches are crowded places. We must be mindful as a nation concerning where we have gone wrong and what we can do. These are the three scenarios about why you can find explosives at the beaches”.
His word of caution was, “We need to be able to monitor the unapproved routes in our beaches. Otherwise, anything could slip through our fingers. It could also be that it is a warning sign that ‘we can penetrate anytime we want’. This is the time to rise up, increase surveillance and make sure that our cities are safe”.
It was reported that a grenade had exploded in La in Accra wounding some children who had the grenade in their possession during their playtime at the La beach. Some residents at South La in the Greater Accra Region say they feel unsafe living in the community after the grenade explosion.
Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Police has cautioned the general public especially parents and community leaders to be wary of strange objects they chance upon and immediately draw the attention of the police for the appropriate response.
