The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has issued a progress report on the brand-new train that was recently involved in an accident on the Tema-Mpakadan rail line. This update comes months after the incident occurred, providing stakeholders with the latest information on the train’s status.

On April 18, 2024, an accident occurred during a test run of the train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line, specifically in the Asuogyaman district of the Eastern region.

In a recent radio interview with an Accra-based station, Assistant Manager of Corporate Affairs at GRDA, Nana Ama Opoku revealed that the train involved in the accident is currently undergoing repair works at the Tema maintenance yard.

She noted that a team of engineers from the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has been collaborating with their counterparts from the train’s manufacturing company in Poland to address the issue and rectify the problems that led to the accident.

She further revealed that the second consignment of 12 cutting-edge trains from Poland is slated to arrive in Ghana by the end of October. Additionally, she announced that President Nana Addo is scheduled to officially commission the Tema-Mpakadan railway line in November, following which the new trains will be deployed into operation.
