Defending champions Hearts of Oak were held at home by Legon Cities in a very competitive game played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Phobians despite their dominance failed to score and settled for a 0-0 draw in their opening game of the new season.
Legon Cities deserved the point because they worked hard for it. They were second best for the most part of the game but defended resolutely with goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi delivering a man-of-the-match performance.
With Kotoko getting off to a flying start with an impressive 3-1 comeback win against Dreams in Accra, Hearts knew they had to win and started attacking from the onset.
Twice in the first half, they had the ball cleared off the line and Ofori Antwi, who literally begged Hearts to sign him during pre-season, made two top saves to keep the scoreline barren.
The second period was no different as Hearts created the best chances. Ibrahim Salifu hit the crossbar with a brilliantly taken free-kick.
Legon Cities threw caution to the wind in added time and nearly snatched victory. Hearts goalkeeper Richard Attah made two important saves.
This would feel like a win for Legon Cities. For Hearts, disappointment was written all over their faces at the end of the game.
