GPL WEEK 12 Match Report: Controversial officiating denies WAFA maximum points against Wa All Stars

WAFA SC survived some controversial refereeing decisions to draw 1-1 with Wa All Stars in Cape Coast on Sunday.
The Wa-based side were awarded a questionable penalty in injury time but Kingsley Effah smashed it again the cross bar.
The Academy Boys had first choice goalkeeper Richmond Ayi sent off for double yellow cards and his replacement Prince Bilson picked up a yellow card late on.
Probably Wa AllStars should have taken the lead after 13 minutes but for indecision from Mohammed Yakubu
It was a lovely build up from midfield and when Yakubu entered the box he decided to cross from the right instead of pulling the trigger.
That attempt saw the ball elude his target man Nafiw Iddrisu who was racing in from the left.
In the 33rd minute,  it was WAFA goalkeeper Richmond Ayi who kept the scoreline barren as he produced one-handed save to parry away Yakubu’s shot at goal.
Two minutes later, WAFA were denied a penalty after Richard Danso was pulled down inside the box but the referee Justice Adu Poku shockingly allowed play to continue.
The Academy Boys were slowly coming into the game and two minutes after that incident, they found the back of the net.
In the 37 minutes , the side with the lion’s share of possession got punished and you could put it down to the inexperience of the of the defenders.
Before the half time whistle, Ayi dived to the ground to parry out Yakubu’s shot at goal. It was a good one-handed save.
In the second half, things really did not change but out of a blue, All Stars were given a questionable penalty.
Richard Arthur went down inside when the ball had eluded him but referee said there was contact and pointed to the spot.
David Abagna firmly planted it at the back of the twine
Substitute Kelvin Andoh broke the offside trap and progressed but he could not find the target in the 69th minute.
Referee Justice Poku awarded Wa All Stars a late penalty which wasted.
