The 2020 annual budget, read by Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Honorable Ken Ofori-Atta has made some reviews on plans that were made concerning the Free Senior High School (SHS) Policy in the 2019 Annual Budget.

Presenting the 2019 Annual Budget, Mr. Ofori-Atta mentioned that the Ministry will complete stalled building projects in the secondary schools to expand capacity and will as well commence work on the upgrade of Senior High School into Model schools in 42 Districts.

This was planned as measures to ease congestion in schools and provide facilities to accommodate larger number of students in the Free Senior High School education.

Listening to this year’s budget presentation, the Minister for finance said, ‘’We will fast-track the construction of 962 structures, including classroom blocks, dormitories and auxiliary facilities in Secondary Schools across the country to ease congestion in our schools’’.

He added that the government will continue to invest in the education sector by providing adequate infrastructure, improving appropriate regulatory systems and incessantly building the capacity of teachers across the country.

This, he said, is to enhance quality human capacity development in our schools.
