President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said in no time trips into Ghana from countries that has been hit by the Coronavirus (Covid-19) will not be allowed.
“In the interim, non-essential travel into Ghana from hard-hit countries like China, Iran, and Italy is being strongly discouraged,” the president said when delivering the 63rd Independence Day speech at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
The President advised Ghanaians to minimize handshake and also to take the advice of health experts in the country seriously in other to protect themselves from the deadly virus that is sweeping the world.
Nigeria and Senegal are the only West African nations to confirm a case each of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
COVID 19 is a cluster of respiratory illness, originating in the Chinese province of Hubei in December 2019, has health officials on high alert around the world.
In January, the causative agent of the disease was found to be a novel coronavirus, dubbed SARS-CoV-2, and the disease it causes was given a name: COVID-19 (for “coronavirus disease 2019”).
As of now, coronavirus cases recorded are 100,720, 3,412 deaths and 55,996 have recovered.
