President Nana Akufo Addo has announced that government will absorb electricity for Ghanaians who use less than 10KW of energy in a month and a whopping 50% slash on the cost of electricity for Ghanaians whose consumption exceed the quota.

President Akufo-Addo in his televised address to the nation announced that for the months of April, May, and June, his government will absorb electricity bills for the poorest of the poorest in Ghana.

“Government will fully absorb electricity bills for the poorest of the poor, i.e. for all lifeline consumers, that is free electricity for persons who consume zero (0) to fifty (50) kilowatt-hours a month for this period. In addition, for all other consumers, residential and commercial, the Government will absorb, again, fifty percent (50%) of your electricity bill for this period, using your March 2020 bill as your benchmark. For example, if your electricity bill was one hundred cedis (GH¢100), you will pay only GH¢50, with Government absorbing the remaining fifty cedis (GH¢50),” he said.

However, in his last address to the nation, he also announced that all Ghanaians will not be paying water bills for the next three (3) months as government will absorb all the cost.
