Gov’t owes me $210,000 six months salary- Kwesi Appiah

Former Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah has confirmed to Happy Sports that government is yet to pay his six months’ salary amounting to $210,000.

The 55-year old, who was on a $35,000 monthly salary as head coach of the Black Stars, signed a six-month contract extension prior to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

“Yes its true i have not been paid for the past six months,” he reaveled when quizzed by Ohene Brenya Bampoe on Happy Sports.

Kwesi Appiah who was in charge of the team had to vacate the post upon the expiration of his contract on December 31, 2019. The Black Stars exited the tournament at the round of 16 stage to Tunisia which sparked calls from the public for his sack after the team’s poor performances and early exit.

The Ghana Football Association in a statement released on 2 January, 2020 dissolved the technical teams of the various national teams which meant Appiah’s contract upon expiration will not be renewed.

In a statement from the ex-coach to thank Ghanaians on during his reign as Black Stars coach. He said his association with the Black Stars, first as a player and subsequently as a coach, has been the source of immense pride for him.

“Through the years I was in charge, I worked with my backroom staff to lay the strong foundation required for others to build on, towards a better future and success for the team” he said. “I thank the President H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve the nation. I also express my appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the Ghana Football Association for their support”.
