Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has articulated that the government is working on finding a suitable replacement for ‘Power Distribution Services’(PDS).
Presenting the 2020 Annual Budget to parliament on the 13th of November, 2019, he said, ‘’Government is fully committed to a private sector partnership in ECG and is focused on moving forward with urgency to find a suitable replacement for the PDS arrangements’’.
He added that the government is prepared to review the transaction structure and recognize the need to improve significantly the management of the ECG.
According to him, this will be done by bringing in world-class private sector expertise and attracting adequate private capital.
On February 27th, 2019, the Electricity Company of Ghana handed over operations to Power Distribution Services but their tenure was short-lived as they were suspended on the 30th of July after the government suspected fraud in the agreement.
The agreement was later terminated on October 19th, 2019.
