The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced the suspension of the implementation of the National Roads Authority Act 2024 (Act 1118).
The decision comes as the government seeks to engage further with key stakeholders and address their concerns.
Parliament passed Act 1118 in July 2024 with the aim of streamlining the management of Ghana’s road infrastructure.
The Act proposed the merger of the Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Urban Roads, and the Department of Feeder Roads into a unified structure to enhance coordination and management.
However, the government has decided to temporarily halt the implementation of the Act to ensure that all stakeholder concerns are adequately addressed.
The Ministry reassured the public of its ongoing efforts to streamline operations and enhance coordination within the road sector, emphasizing that the suspension is a step towards achieving a more effective and collaborative approach to road management.
