Government reaffirms its fight against Galamsey

Government has reaffirmed its commitment to end illegal mining in the country.

The President through the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relation on Tuesday October 8, 2024 met with leadership of organized labour to discuss measures to combat the menace.

The agreed outline by both parties include the deployment of additional military personnel, the suspension of mining in forest reserves, the strengthening of prosecution of illegal mining cases as well as the call for a national pact on illegal mining.

“In light of these decisive actions, Government respectfully requests that Organised Labour suspend its planned “strike action” on 10th October 2024, and collaborate with Government and other stakeholders to ensure the effective combat of the galamsey menace.
President Akufo-Addo remains determined to end illegal mining, and calls on all citizens, political leaders and stakeholders to unite in this critical national effort”.

This was contained in a press statement by the Communication Directorate of the Jubilee House.
