The Ministry of Interior has imposed a curfew on Walewale and its surrounding areas in the North East Region, effective Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The curfew, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., was enacted upon the advice of the North East Regional Security Council and authorized through an Executive Instrument.
In a statement posted on the Ministry’s facebook page, the government has urged residents, including chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and youth, to remain calm and exercise restraint amid prevailing tensions.
Authorities have called for peaceful resolutions and encouraged community members to avoid violence, instead channeling their efforts toward maintaining stability in the region.
Residents are advised to comply with the curfew regulations, as breaches may lead to legal consequences.
