Governance expert commends Gov’t on travel bans; says health comes before economic gains

Governance Expert and Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. B.B. Bingab has commended the President for temporarily suspending all foreign travels of public officials as a measure to prevent an outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.

Speaking in an interview on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM, he said: “In terms of governance, it is a step in the right direction and probably more steps need to be taken if we have to be able to able to manage this situation. The disease is not in the African market but it is in a market that affects globally”.

He added that from the Governance perspective, health comes before economic gains.

”Investment and for that matter the economy thrives only when we are in a good state, in other words when we are healthy. So if you want sacrifice health issues especially pandemic of this nature for economic gains then I am sure that we would have misplaced our priorities”

He also noted that public officials including the President himself should heed to this directive unless it is crucial that they travel out of the country.

President Akufo-Addo has temporarily suspended all foreign travels for public officials as part of the measures to prevent the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease which have so far been confirmed in more than eighty (80) countries across the globe.
