The National President of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), Prof. Damascus Tuurosong, is urging the Government of Ghana to abolish the 30% school placement priority granted to public schools.
Speaking during a joint press conference by the Ghana National Association of Private Schools(GNAPS) and Ghana National Council of Private Schools(GNACOPS) on Thursday November 14, 2024 under the theme: “Equal Access for All: Addressing Inequalities in Senior High School Admission”, he expressed concern that the priority given to public school students in Category A Senior High School placements is negatively impacting students, teachers, and parents of private school students.
He highlighted that GNAPS has held multiple meetings with the Ministry of Education and even filed a petition with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on November 8, 2024. However, these efforts have not yielded results. He argued that the 30% placement priority for public schools discriminates against private school students and infringes on their rights.
He calls on the Ministry of Education to abolish this initiative, as it is significantly affecting enrollment in private schools.
