#GMAWPRD: Understanding values in relationships is key to PR – IPR President

President of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, has stated that Public Relations professional’s capacity to appreciate the values in every relationship is critical in dealing with a crisis situation.

According to him, understanding the key drivers and values in relationships is critical in applying the tools and management of communications.

Speaking at a World Public Relations Day (WPRD) celebration organized by Global Media Alliance (GMA) at the Holiday Inn, Accra, under the theme; ‘The Evolution Of PR: Shifting Skillset Required Of Today’s PR Professional,’ Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu opted to use the bible to drive home his point.

Picking his case study from the biblical stories of Rebecca and Abigail, Mr. Afadzinu stated, “my mind goes way back to bible to the story of Rebecca who met a group of men she didn’t know. She didn’t only give them men water after they asked but she went ahead to provide water for their group of camels. She was able to identify the values in that relationship.”

Describing Abigail as having a terrible husband who was hot tempered as many men are, he shared her response to the greetings of David mirrored the values of their relationships.

To him, relationships are highly important in the field of PR, “as they build a sense of trust and shared values for the parties involved.”

Practitioners around the world are dedicating July 16 every year to the recognition and celebration of Public Relations (PR) and communications, and building a unified global agenda towards making the world understand and utilize PR better.

With the 2022 theme of the WPRD centered on the tenets of Trust, Truth and Transparency, Global Media Alliance (GMA), an Integrated Marketing Communications firm with a firm grip of Public Relations industry marks this celebration with a series of activations, geared at promoting PR in Ghana.

GMA leveraging on its immense resource (digital, human, traditional) organized an event not to only rededicate itself to the ethics of PR, but also educate its publics and other industry players on the relevance of PR and new-emerging trends to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in the space.
