MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

There are steps you can take to help you vote and minimize your risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. The more prepared you are the less time you may have to spend at the voting site.
When voting, you can protect yourself and others if you:

  1. Avoid close contact: try to stay at least 6 feet apart of other people, especially those not wearing a mask.
  2. Wear a mask around others
  3. Take care when touching surfaces and wash your hands often or, if not possible, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Bring your own supplies if possible
Use this checklist to remember things to bring with you when you go to vote:

  1. Necessary documentation such as your Voters ID card
  2. A mask
  3. An extra mask
  4. Tissues
  5. Hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol Wear a mask at all times
You should wear a mask consistently and correctly in public and around people who don’t live with you.
  6. If you must take your mask off, use hand sanitizer before and after
  7. Have an extra mask in case yours gets wet or dirty
A few people might not be able to wear a mask because of a disability or condition.

Protect yourself when using transport to and from your polling station

  1. Open windows if you can
  2. Wear a mask
  3. Avoid touching things if you can and use hand sanitizer if you do
  4. Stay 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) apart from others if you can

Clean your hands as often as possible

  1. Wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol before entering and after leaving your place of voting
  2. Use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol before and after touching items that many others may have touched, such as door handles
  3. Do not wipe down voting equipment unless you are told to do so

Keep your distance from others

  1. Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from other people as much as you can
  2. Stay apart even if you are wearing masks.
