Bankroller of King Faisal FC, Alhaji Grusah, has made some explosive statements, accusing the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo, of being a fraud and calling for his resignation.
The allegations come amidst King Faisal FC’s heartbreak as their hopes of overturning their relegation from the Ghana Premier League were shattered.
The controversy stems from a match that took place on May 6 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium, where King Faisal FC suffered a devastating 4-1 defeat against Tamale City FC. Citing the alleged fielding of an ineligible player, specifically Isaac Mensah/Jireh Kojo Nissi, by Tamale City FC, King Faisal FC lodged a protest seeking victory by default.
The potential three points from this protest could have significantly boosted their chances of avoiding relegation.
However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dismissed King Faisal’s protest, and the football governing body was given a 20-day ultimatum by CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) to respond to the appeal.
Despite this, the GFA urged that the case be thrown out, claiming that granting King Faisal’s request for a stay in judgment would cause more harm to the league and the teams that have already qualified for the Ghana Premier League.
The GFA emphasized that these teams had invested substantial funds to meet the licensing regulations of the league.
In an interview on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports show, Alhaji Grusah accused the FA’s general secretary of being incompetent saying,
“The General secretary should resign, he is a fraud and doesn’t know his job. He is getting paid for doing what exactly. The GFA immediately released the fixtures for next season’s Ghana Premier League when they received the letter from CAS about our intention to put an injunction on the league”.
Meanwhile, the outcome of this dispute will undoubtedly have significant implications not only for the teams involved in next season’s GPL season but also for the integrity of Ghana’s football governing body.
