Ghana’s national women’s football team, the Black Queens, have powered their way into the second round of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, leaving no room for doubt with a resounding 12-0 aggregate triumph over Rwanda.
The journey to this victory commenced last week in Kigali, where the Black Queens convincingly outplayed their Rwandan counterparts, claiming a commanding 7-0 victory in the first leg of the tie.
Returning home to the Accra Sports Stadium for the reverse fixture today, Ghana maintained their relentless pursuit of victory. Despite already holding a significant lead, they showed no mercy, putting on a dazzling display of skill and determination. In the first half alone, the Black Queens netted four goals.
The star of the day was undoubtedly midfielder Alice Kusi, who delighted the home crowd by opening the scoring in the 22nd minute. Kusi didn’t stop there, adding two more goals to complete a remarkable hat-trick. The goal fest continued with contributions from Evelyn Badu and Stella Nyamekye, sealing a 5-0 second-leg triumph for Ghana.
With an astounding 12-0 aggregate scoreline, Ghana now sets its sights on the next challenge in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. They await the winner of the clash between Gambia and Namibia in the second leg of this thrilling competition.
