Ghana’s mission which is based in Italy has advised that as the world suffers the COVID-19 pandemic, independent countries should not be inward-looking but “this is the time for them seek out and work with one another.”
According to Ghana’s ambassador to Italy, H.E. Mrs. Eudora Quartey Koranteng, sharing of ideas and research is the only sure way to find a lasting solution to the virus.
The diplomat gave this advice in a special virtual conference on Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy Morning Show on the theme: “COVID-19 in Europe: Sharing the Italy Experience. “The World Health Organization has said that we need collaboration and cooperation at this period. We need to share information on our research as it will be useful in fighting the pandemic,” she told host, Raymond Nyamador.
She noted that currently, the world is coexisting with the virus and that the pandemic has allowed the world to hit the pause button “to reassess the way we do things.” To her, this pause should birth more collaboration between countries.
H.E Eudora Koranteng pointed out that even the resuscitation of world economies can be made difficult if countries promote their nationalistic agenda rather than focusing on idea-sharing.
The ambassador applauded the efforts of the Ghanaian government towards the fight against the pandemic. “Ghana has put in place a very competent COVID-19 team and I will not assume to advise them. One can see that the competencies within Ghana’s COVID-19 committee are providing all with the necessary responses needed to protect Ghanaians against the virus.”
The COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV 2).
The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January, and a pandemic on 11 March.
As of 9 June 2020, no cure or vaccine has been identified and approved by the World Health Organization to fight the virus.
