The Government has announced plans to commemorate the 68th Independence Day at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, revealed this during a press conference on Wednesday February 12, 2025.

According to the minister, the decision to mark the day at the Jubilee House is aimed at reducing cost.

“A modest but significant event to mark this important occasion without breaking the national purse. For that reason, this year’s celebration will not take on the spectacular form that we have been used to over the years. Rather than a major event at Independence Square, we are going to have a significant celebration at the presidency.”

He added that, “This will ensure that we minimize the often huge financial implications that come with this celebration”.

Speaking during the press Conference, Ofosu Kwakye mentioned that, the event will include a Military Guard of Honour reviewed by the President, cultural performances by two groups of basic school pupils, and a poetry recital by senior high school students.

He also stated that, the event would be witnessed by a few selected individuals from society and would be complimented with the President’s ceremonial address.
