Ghana’s bid to qualify to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in the 4*100 men relay category has suffered a major hit after the team’s baton change disaster in the heat 1 race.
The Ghana team who were competing in lane 5 and was flanked by USA and Brazil in lane 4 and 6 respectively couldn’t achieve automatic qualifications to the finals after failing to secure a top 2 finish.
Ghana started the race well with Ibrahim Fuseini but a failed baton change between Isaac Botsio and Benjamin Azamati caused a delay giving Joseph Paul Amoah no chance of finishing in a top position.
However, team Ghana will get another opportunity to chase their 2024 Olympics dream in the second round when they compete in Heat 2 against Nigeria, Netherlands, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Thailand and Dominican Republic.
Out of the over 30 countries competition in the world 4*100 men’s relay competition, only 14 countries can secure a qualification to the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris.
