Ghanaians will grade Bawumia an ‘F’ for economic management – Mahama

All officials appointed in my government will declare their assets within 30 days of taking office - Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has criticized the economic management record of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that Ghanaians would grade him with an ‘F’ for failure.

Mr. Mahama, dismissing Dr. Bawumia’s claims of a strong performance, accused the NPP government of driving Ghana into debt.

He made these remarks while addressing party supporters in Amanfrom on Sunday, September, 15, 2024 during the second phase of his Greater Accra regional campaign, emphasizing that the NPP cannot escape blame for the current state of the economy.

He noted that Ghana’s economic situation would have been even worse if the country had started repaying its debt, which is scheduled to begin in 2025 under the next government.

He argued that the only reason the cedi has maintained some stability is because Ghana is not currently repaying its debts.

He pointed out that despite this temporary reprieve, the cedi continues to depreciate, now trading at over GH¢16 to a dollar.

Mr. Mahama referencing Bawumia’s presidential ambitions, said the Vice President recently claimed to have performed excellently in his role and is now seeking promotion to the presidency. However, he argued that in an economic management exam, Bawumia would have received an F.
