The English Premier League kicks off on Friday and below is a list of Ghanaian players to watch out for in the 2021-22 season.
Thomas Partey- Arsenal
After enduring a difficult campaign in the 2020-21 season due to injuries Thomas Partey is expected to play a huge role for Arsenal this season. Unfortunately for the London club, the 28-year-old will not start the season with his teammates as he nurses an ankle injury. But, he is expected to make a return in three weeks’ time.
Tarique Fosu
The Ghanaian international will be featuring for the newly-promoted side this season in the Premier League. Tariq Fosu is expected to make his debut for Brentford in their season opener against Arsenal
Tarique Fosu helped Brentford earn promotion to the topflight last season, playing 41 games and scoring four times as the Bees secured topflight football.
Daniel Amartey
Ghanaian defender is expected to play a key role in The Foxes campaign this season.
Daniel Amartey has already bagged his first silverware of the season winning the FA Community Shield Cup against Manchester City. Brendan Rodgers will rely on the services of the Black Stars defender should he be fit throughout the campaign.
- Mohammed Salisu – Southampton
The 22-year-old had a good finish to his maiden season in England, after his big-money move from Real Valladolid. He struggled in the beginning with injuries and manager Ralph Hassenhutl took time to integrate him into the team.
Salisu is gradually commanding a place in the Saints team with his performances.
- Kwadwo Baah
Kwadwo Baah joined Watford in the transfer window, although Manchester City had already made inquiries about his availability during his time with Rochdale last season. He opted to join the newly-promoted side, as he seeks regular playtime.
- Jordan Ayew
Jordan Ayew will be playing under new manager Patrick Vieira at Selhurst Park this season. The 29-year-old endured a difficult campaign last season scoring one goal throughout the season under former manager Roy Hodgson. Ghana forward adjudged Crystal Palace Player of the season in 2019-20 season will be hoping to replicate that form this season
- Jeffrey Schlupp
Jeffrey Schlupp and Jordan Ayew will be playing under new manager Patrick Vieira. Schlupp has been a key player for Palace anytime he is fit and will be hoping to keep his position under new manager Patrick Vieira.
- Eddie Nketiah- Arsenal
The English-born Ghanaian is still waiting for his breakthrough season, despite being promoted to the first team since last season. Competition for a starting role has been fierce, with the 21-year-old having to battle for a place with Alexander Lacazette and captain Pierre Emerick Augbamayeng
- Kamal Sowah- Leicester City
Kamal Sowah is likely to stay with The Foxes this season after excelling in Belgium with OH Leuven. Sowah scored eight goals and created six assists in the Jupiler Pro League.
He was one of the best players for Leuven as they sustained their league status. Sowah trained with Leicester City during preseason where he was assessed by manager Brendan Rodgers.
- Tariq Lamptey
Tariq Lamptey had a stellar campaign with Brighton before injuries ruled him out of the 2020-21 season. The highly-rated wing-back is on the radar of several clubs including Everton. Lamptey is expected to be fully fit for the upcoming season. He is a starter and a regular member of manager Graham Potter.
The 20-year-old is one of the few English-born Ghanaian players, the football association is working on getting them to play for the Black Stars.
- Baba Rahman- Chelsea
- It’s unlikely if Baba Rahman could stay at Stamford Bridge this season. The left-back impressed Thomas Tuchel in the preseason but is set to move out of the club on loan, according to reports
