Former Ghanaian sprinter, Emmanuel Tuffuor, says athletes in the country need more competitions in order to prepare well for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.
According to Tuffour, the inadequate Track and Field clubs in the country can also be blamed for the lack of competitions.
“When it comes to organizing competitions, it is the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) but they cannot do it all alone. When you go to other countries there are a lot of track and field clubs but here in Ghana we don’t have any with the exception of Rex Danquah’s Ghana’s fastest Human club”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM.
“We have to get a lot of competitions. This year is an Olympic year and if we don’t get more competitions and we pick athletes for the Olympic games they will not perform. All the professional athletes are engaged in competitions now”.
“We need more competitions at least to help the athletes prepare for the Olympics and other competitions. The Track and field has gone down and we hoping things will get better”, he added.
