Ghana winger Solomon Asante appointed captain of Phoenix Rising

In-form Ghana winger has been named interim captain of Phoenix Rising in the ongoing America United Soccer League (USL) season.
The diminutive attacker joined the American second-tier as a free agent prior to the USL season after refusing to extend his contract with Congolese giants Tout Puissant Mazembe.
The Ghana international has quickly hit the ground running for the side with his swashbuckling performances, earning a place in three Team of the Week in the league.
The 27-year has been appointed skipper by coach Patrice Carteron as substantive captain Didier Drogba faces some days on the sidelines.
Asante skippered Phoenix for the first time in their 3-1 victory at St Louis FC- a game which he scored a brilliant free-kick in the 49th minute to extend his side’s lead.
“It is a huge honour and a role I will perform with great pride,” Asante told Happy FM.
“I am very grateful to the manager for the faith he has shown in me.”
