Black Stars skipper, Andre Dede Ayew, seemed unhappy and walked straight into the dressing room after sitting out the entire 90 minutes on the bench in Ghana’s 2023 AFCON fixture against Angola on Thursday.
The incident which happened on the blind side of many after Ghana’s slim victory against Angola was one key observation made by Happy FM’s reporter on the ground, Ohene Bampoe-Brenya.
Ghana secured a narrow victory through substitute Antoine Semenyo’s late goal in the 95th minute as he latched onto a loose ball in the box after the Stars struggled to find the back of Angola’s net.
“After the final whistle, celebrations began and the Black Stars decided to have a lap of honor in memory of Baba Yara, the one the stadium was named after. Dede Ayew after the final whistle walked straight to the dressing room, he did not take part in it” Ohene Bampoe- Brenya reported.
However. Black stars coach, Chris Hughton in a post-match conference explained his decision to leave Dede a yew on the bench during the entire match.
“Leaving players on the bench is the choice you have as a head coach. You know the quality that Andre has you also know the quality that I like to think the squad has”.
“So these are very difficult decisions for me; certainly nothing to read into that. He is, has been, and is still a very good player it was just my choice” Hughton to the press.
Ghana will travel to Angola this weekend to prepare to face the side on March 27.
