Ghana to play Namibia in a pre-AFCON friendly

Youthfulness in Black Stars squad will yield results soon – Ghana Legend Willie Brown

The anticipated pre-AFCON friendly between Ghana and Botswana has been scrapped following public disapproval.

The Ghana Football Association, initially confirming a Johannesburg camp and a friendly match against Botswana, faced backlash from fervent football enthusiasts in the country.

Responding to the public sentiments, the Sports Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association, has altered course, now leaning towards a training camp in Kumasi. In a strategic move to fine-tune their skills ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana will play a friendly game with Namibia.

Notably, Namibia’s national football team has already set up camp in Ghana, injecting an unexpected twist to the pre-tournament preparations.

The Southern African nation has chosen the scenic Western Region of Ghana for its pre-tournament training.

Namibia coach Collin Benjamin has further intensified the pre-AFCON excitement by unveiling his 28-player provisional squad for the highly anticipated tournament in Ivory Coast.

Placed in Group E alongside football powerhouses South Africa, Tunisia, and Mali, Namibia is gearing up for fierce competition.
