Ghana to become Africa’s first Blockchain-Powered Government in Africa – Vice President of Ghana

Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that government is working hard towards making Ghana the first blockchain-powered government in Africa.

Speaking at the 14th Regional Conference and Annual General Meeting of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa, he described the blockchain technology as a service oriented one which will aid the government of Ghana in fighting against corruption.

The technology will follow the soon to be launched e-cedi, which he believes would stifle the advances made by financial crime perpetrators in the country. He believes that incorporating blockchain would help the government to trace all digital transactions in the governance space.

He indicated blockchain technology as the newest addition, joins a long list of digital tools that have already been engaged like the ghana gov. portal and the digitilisation of passport application procedures, all to boost effectiveness of various industries in the West African country.

The 14th Regional Conference and Annual General Meeting of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth was held in Ghana on Thursday May 9, 2024 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, aimed at ‘Strengthening Institutions and Promoting Transparency: A Means of Fighting Corruption in Commonwealth Africa.’
