The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has officially abolished the 1% Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) following President John Mahama’s approval of the relevant legislative amendments on April 2, 2025.
Financial institutions and mobile money operators have been directed to reconfigure their systems to ensure transactions are no longer subject to the levy.
A press statement signed by Edward Apenteng Gyamerah, Commissioner, Domestic Tax Revenue Division for GRA indicates that immediate refunds are required for customers charged after the abolition, with non-compliance attracting legal sanctions.
Additionally, institutions must account for all E-Levy amounts collected before the effective date.
The GRA has committed to monitoring compliance through regular inspections.
