Ghana National Education Coalition (GNECC) Condemns violence at O’Reilly Senior High School

Court orders two-week remand for O'Reilly SHS murder suspect

The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has condemned the stabbing at O’Reilly Senior High School leading to the demise of form three student, Edward Borketey Sackey.

A statement released by GNECC on September 4, 2024, the Coalition does not only condemn the incident but also calls for immediate action on the matter.

According to GNECC, there must be urgent measures to address violence in schools and provide support for students facing conflicts.

“GNECC calls on the Ministry of Education and relevant authorities to take immediate action to prevent such occurrences in the future. The coalition emphasizes the importance of implementing effective conflict resolution programs and mental health support within Schools to address underlying issues before they escalate “.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Stephen Abanfo has confirmed the arrest of the alleged attacker and stated that a full scale investigation is underway. GNECC supports this investigation and calls for transparent process to ensure justice.

GNECC expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The statement was signed by the National Coordinator of GNECC, Bernice Mpere Gyekye.
