Aspiring Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kweku Ricketts Hagan, has lashed out at loyalists of former President John Mahama, who verbally attack former appointees of Mahama who wants to contest for NDC Flagbearer slot.
According to him, Ghana is not “President Mahama Limited” so he is not the only person who has the right to contest for the flagbearership slot of the Party.
He deemed everyone lacing his boots to contest for the flagbearership race as equally capable as Mahama so they must also be treated fairly.
Speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben Mr. Ricketts Hagan said, “When you make up your mind to contest the NDC flagbearer race, some cronies of Mahama will start saying that he gave you appointment so back off. Like somebody is saying now, it was president Mahama who appointed you and you are contesting him, Look, it’s as if that Ghana is a Mahama Limited Company. Listen, Ghana is for all of us.”
He added that, “President Mahama happens to be the President who gave us the opportunity to serve in a government. Let’s be frank with these things, I won’t shy away from these things, we have to be honest and tell it as it is. I’m very grateful to Mahama for giving me the opportunity to serve my country but Ghana is for all.”
The entry of the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Ricketts-Hagan into the race brings to 12 the total number of NDC leaders jostling to become the Party’s flagbearer.
They include Mahama, who wants a second shot at the presidency after his government was booted out in 2016 for poor performance, former Rector of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) Professor Joshua Alabi, former Minister of Trade and Industry Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and Second Deputy Speaker and NDC MP for Nadowli Kaleo Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.
Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester A. Mensah; former Central Regional Minister and NDC MP for; returnee Augustus Goosie O. Tanoh ; a lawyer and member of the NDC’s Communications Team Elipklim Agbemava; a banker and oil and gas consultant Nurudeen Iddrisu and David Doste Kwame Kuwadah, maverick Stephen Atubiga, aka Latrician or Acolatse and Kojo Bonsu former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Boss, have all declared their intention to contest the former President in the upcoming primaries.
