Ghana Athletics is set to host its inaugural Masters Athletics competition from October 20 to 22, 2023. This track and field event will be held at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Stadium and is exclusively tailored for athletes aged 35 and above.
The competition features a unique format where athletes will compete within specific age brackets, spanning five-year intervals. For instance, athletes aged 35 will compete solely against those between 35 and 39, while the 40-year-old category will include participants aged 40 to 45, and so on.
In the track events, athletes will battle it out in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m races. Meanwhile, the field events will feature competitors showcasing their skills in high jump, long jump, triple jump, and discus throwing.
This historic event marks the first competition to be organized under the leadership of Ghana Athletics’ newly elected president, Bawah Fuseini, who assumed office in August of this year.
