The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the death of Ghanaian soldier, identified as Lance Corporal Omar Abdul Rahman over a land dispute which reportedly occurred in Millennium City, Kasoa in the Central Region.
In a press release issued by the GAF Department of Public Relations, General Headquarters, the killer, one Bernard Ababio (land guard) , in an unprovoked circumstance on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 around 4:20 PM shot killed Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Omar Abdul Rahman who happened to own the land.
According to the release, the land in question, was under police investigation; hence all parties were advised to stay away from the land till further notice.
However, (L/Cpl) Omar got word of work being done on the prohibited land. Accompanied by two of his colleagues, L/Cpl Danso Michael (Deceased) and L/Cpl Ametus Matthew, they made their way to the land and halted work which was going on at the time.
The release reports that the soldiers who went to file a report at the Millennium City Police Station were confronted by an acclaimed owner of the land and two land guards who gunned down L/Cpl Danso Michael and (L/Cpl) Omar Abdul Rahman who was going to park a vehicle at the police station’s car park.
The body of L/Cpl Danso Michael is currently at the 37 Military Hospital morgue.
Meanwhile, the killer Bernard Ababio, was disarmed and has been arrested while he awaits trial at the Millennium City Police Station.
GAF extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and informed the public on their close collaboration with Ghana Police Service to conduct further investigation.
The Ghana Armed Forces condemns the unprovoked attack and remains committed to maintaining Law and Order in Ghanaian communities and urged all citizens to seek lawful means to resolve land disputes.
