Ghana head coach Otto Addo admitted that his team could have delivered a stronger performance in their AFCON 2025 qualifier against Angola, despite the challenges posed by the poor condition of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch.
The Black Stars, aiming to kick off their qualification campaign with a positive result, suffered a 1-0 loss on Thursday after a late injury-time goal by Felicio Joao Milson ending Ghana’s 24-year unbeaten streak at the stadium.
“I don’t want to blame the loss on the pitch, even though it wasn’t in good shape,” Addo noted. “We faced similar conditions against the Central African Republic, but we still won. We just need to perform better.”
Despite the defeat, Addo found positives in the team’s play and expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances for the rest of the qualifiers.
“The second half gives me hope that we can still qualify,” he added. “The advantage is that our fate remains in our hands, as we still have to play all the teams in the group.”
The Black Stars will now shift their focus to their next match against Niger on Monday in Morocco, as they aim to bounce back from the disappointing result in Kumasi.
