GFA has no issues with Afena-Gyan – FA Gen. Sec Prosper Harrison Addo

Prosper Harrison Addo, the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has disclosed that the Association has no problem with Ghanaian forward Felix Afena-Gyan.

Felix Afena- Gyan, who plays for Italian side Cremonese rejected a call-up to feature for the Black Meteors in their crucial two-leg U23 AFCON qualifier against Algeria earlier this year.

According to unconfirmed reports, the player, Afena-Gyan was unhappy with treatment by the GFA after his World Cup snub.

Giving more clarification on the issue in an exclusive interview with Happy98.9 FM, Mr. Addo said, “ The FA as a body has no issue with Afena-Gyan. He is young and needs room for himself, sometimes constant criticisms reinforce his disappointments. So we have to give him room to come to terms and a good place. The GFA has not stated anywhere that the player will not receive a call-up and will disassociate itself from such reports”.

“The FA will however leave that to the coach to decide if he needs Afena-Gyan and then the FA will make sure we do what is necessary to get the player. He is still a national asset and will be key for the team,” he added.

Afena-Gyan was a member of the Black Stars squad that defeated Nigeria in the playoffs to earn a spot in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

He has however struggled to get play time since his move from AS Roma this year.
