GFA Elections: Incumbent FA boss Kurt Okraku files for nomination

Kurt Okraku, the incumbent President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has officially announced his candidacy for a second term in the forthcoming GFA elections.

Having initially ascended to the GFA’s top post in October 2019, Okraku is now seeking re-election as his current tenure approaches its conclusion in October of this year.

His previous victory was secured after a closely contested race against George Afriyie and four other candidates, firmly establishing Okraku’s presence and influence within Ghanaian football.

Addressing members of the press on Friday, August 11, Okraku shared his unwavering vision for the development of Ghanaian football to an elevated standard.

He articulated his belief that Ghana’s football prospects are on an upward trajectory and that his leadership is pivotal in steering the nation’s football aspirations toward greater achievements.

“Ghanaian football has traversed challenging paths, but it is currently experiencing an upward surge. I want to assure you that our football is in capable hands, and I am privileged to be that guiding force,” Okraku remarked.

Okraku also emphasized his receptiveness to novel ideas and collaborative efforts from fellow football administrators, including those from opposing factions. He highlighted the importance of unity and collective commitment to elevate Ghana’s football standards.

“Many of my colleagues in administration have placed their trust in my vision. Our journey to excellence demands a joint endeavor. I am eager to embrace diverse perspectives to enhance our football,” Okraku added.

In the impending elections, Okraku is poised to contend with significant competition from George Afriyie, the former GFA Vice President, who has also declared his intent to vie for the esteemed GFA Presidential seat.

With the roadmap for the 2023 elections released by the Elections Committee, the presidential race is set to take place on, September 27, 2023 in Tamale.
