Samuel Anim Addo, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has highlighted the significant strides made within the Division One League (DOL) under his leadership.
As the impending GFA elections loom, Addo’s remarks shed light on the transformative changes in the league, showcasing his commitment to its continued growth and development.
“I do not have to say much about the works we’ve undertaken since we took over. The people in Division One know the amount of investment that has been made,” Addo stated firmly, reflecting his confidence in the impactful initiatives that have been implemented during his tenure.
One of the most remarkable advancements highlighted by Addo is the GFA’s role in alleviating financial burdens from the Division One league. He explained in an interview with Ohene Bampoe Brenya on HappySports, “The Ghana Football Association has absorbed lots of expenses the Division One league used to incur. This financial support has undoubtedly provided relief to clubs within the league, enabling them to focus more on honing their talents and enhancing their performance on the field”.
Moreover, the GFA’s commitment to enhancing visibility and recognition for the DOL has yielded promising results. Addo proudly mentioned, “Football is distributed by the FA, and the league for the first time is being publicized which hasn’t happened before.” This newfound exposure has not only drawn attention to the league but has also spotlighted emerging talents that might have otherwise remained in obscurity.
Addo’s optimism about the progress made within the DOL is backed by tangible success stories. “We’ve seen notable talents like Fatawu Ishaku, Emmanuel ’99ideas’ Yeboah, and others who have come from the Division One League,” he pointed out, underlining the league’s pivotal role as a breeding ground for future football stars. These players’ meteoric rise from the DOL to higher tiers of competition serves as a testament to the positive changes that have unfolded within the league.
As the GFA Elections Committee unveiled the list of candidates vying for various positions, including the Division One League (DOL) Clubs EXCO Positions, Addo’s name stands among the contenders. The formidable roster also includes Mark Addo, Eugene Noble Noel, Gideon Fosu, and Alexander Ababio, with only three set to be elected to represent DOL clubs.
With the Ghana Football Association’s general elections scheduled for October this year, the stakes are high, and the election of new executives, including the hotly contested position of the presidency, remains a major focus of the football community’s attention.
