The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned heads of basic schools against charging unauthorized Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) registration fees to final-year students.
In a press release dated February 12, 2025, GES acknowledged reports circulating on social media alleging that some school heads were demanding such fees.
The agency stressed that these charges are illegal and instructed all school heads to put an immediate stop to the practice. Regional Directors have been directed to inform District Directors to closely monitor the situation and ensure strict compliance.
They stated that school heads who have already collected unauthorized fees must refund the money, with failure to comply resulting in sanctions.
GES reiterated that late registration for BECE candidates will not be allowed, urging all eligible students to complete their registration within the timeframe set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
