Western Regional Football Association Chairman, Kojo Yankah has taken a fierce potshot at yanked vice president of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie – calling him as a ‘malicious liar’.
Mr Afriyie was fired from his duty as the vice president of the Ghana Football Association last month following a meeting of the Ghana FA Executive Committee.
Mr Afriyie’s sacking followed his removal as the Chairman of the Black Stars management committee after some fractious few months between him and the leader of the federation.
Reports emerge that he has been on war path with his boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi, after sending him an insulting text message last year.
Some section of the football loving populace have questioned the sacking of Mr Afriyie – with some even assuming that because of his ‘untimely’ declaration of his interest to contest for the FA’s top position led to him facing the axe.
However, during an interview with Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, the outspoken Western Regional Football Association Chairman, revealed the real reasons behind Afriyie’s sacking, claiming the spreading of lies against the FA President which was disproved at meetings of the Executive Committee.
“He (George) spread malicious lies about the President that monies of $1.5m has gone missing from the GFA accounts and when he was confronted he denied ever saying it but he told several people who testified,” Yankah said on Happy FM.
“He sent a text message to insult the President of the GFA without any provocation and we found it very unfortunate and in such circumstances this person cannot be trusted.
“George also called a secret meeting with the staff to warn some of them that they will be sacked when he takes over as the Ghana FA President.”
“These are the reasons and for any reasonable person or organisation such acts would not be condoned by anyone let alone the Vice President.”
