Former Ghana FA Vice president, George Kwasi Afriyie, suspects there is a ploy to cripple some clubs in the Ghana Football Association’s quest to implement the new Division One League.

According to the bankroller of Susubribi, the GFA’s move to quickly introduce a National Division League which will have only 18 clubs next season will be disastrous if implemented at the moment.

He explained that the timing and implementation which will see about 30 clubs being relegated to the Division Two which will be calamitous for the FA.

54 members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have called on the football governing body to organise an Extraordinary Congress to review parts of its statutes.

The members which include premier league clubs such as Asante Kotoko, Real Tamale United, Elmina Sharks and many others want a review of articles 81(6), 39(k), and introduction of a new clause to article 27.

The petition, which copied the Jubilee House, and Ministry of Youth and Sports, called on the FA to hold on to the commencement of the new Division One League season scheduled to start on November 19.

In the letter from the aggrieved clubs, the creation of the new Super League for Division One League Clubs appears to based on Article 81(6) which provides that: “The number of delegates representing the Division One League shall be reduced to 18 (down from the current 48) at the latest by the end of the second football season following the adoption of these Statutes.”

George Afriyie in an interview on Happy Sports with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya said, the way and manner the FA is trying to implement and introduce the new pyramid is wrong and it needs more dialogue and the use of the association’s rules.

“There is a hidden agenda behind the implementation of this pyramid and some of us will resist it”, said on Happy FM.

“All of a sudden if you tell 48 teams that 30 teams will go to relegation then the worst is about to happen”.

He added that the GFA General Secretary’s silence on the petition to the FA is a sign they didn’t care.

“I feel so sad the letters written by the 54 clubs did not receive the attention of the GFA. I am so shocked and surprised they did not find any reason to engage the clubs. This is because we don’t matter. They way and manner they want to implement this new football pyramid is not right”
