Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has said that she will be celebrating this year’s mothers day with the mothers of disabled children on Saturday, May 11 2019.
Speaking in an interview on e.TV Ghana’s ‘African Women’s Voices‘ with Nosisa Doe, the minister said, there are some disabled children whose conditions are so severe that they cannot go to school.
“So, on the 11 May, I am going to have a programme for mothers with disabled children. Not all disabled children but some disabilities are such that they can even go to school. But there are others who can’t go to school and are kept in their rooms. Those parents are unfortunately the mothers who can’t afford for those children,” she said.
She added that “we are going to have a program for them to get them some money for their upkeep.”
Mrs. Morrison also disclosed that the government has a shelter for those living on the street.
“Those on the streets, we have a shelter for them. So myself together with my chief director of the ministry, we went round and we are picking them and gradually I realized that the numbers are dropping.”
“Some have gone back to their parent some are at the shelter”.
Cynthia Mamle Morrison is a Ghanaian politician and a member of the New Patriotic Party. She is currently the Member of Parliament for Agona West constituency. She is also a mother of seven and loves people with disabilities.
