The General Secretary of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Bawa Fuseini, has said in an interview that the Association congress is coming off as schedule despite opposition from some members.
GAA this week released a notice of Congress which is scheduled to come off at Modern City Hotel, Tamale in Northern Region on Saturday, August 17. The congress will be followed by the election on the same day.
Speaking on Happy FM’s Morning Show [Anopa Bosuo Sports] with Ohene Brenya Bampoe said “The GAA election is coming on as planned in Tamale tomorrow. I have done what I am supposed to do internally within the NSA but I haven’t gotten any official response from them with any problems.”
He revealed that some members have already left Accra for Tamale for the congress. “Some people have left already to Tamale and some are leaving today for the congress.”
“I have not gotten any letter from the NSA sending me to the Western North as a sports director there. That posting to my understanding is not a promotion because it’s not within my academic ranks. If you transfer me and the documents brought is not accurate and on the point then it is not mine. I am reliably informed that the board of the NSA has advised that the transferring to new regions should hold on. I haven’t received any letter saying there’s a new General secretary for GAA,” he said.
He stressed that the congress must come off. “Once the way has been cleared for congress then the GAA has no excuse than to go to Congress. We have to attend an international congress in Morocco and we can’t take executives whose mandate has expired already. This Saturday is the last Saturday before the African games so we must go and elect the new members.”
However, The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has dismissed speculations that the GAA is scheduled for congress on Saturday.
Former President of Association who is also an aspiring president of Ghana GAA, George Haldane-Lutterodt has also called on the Bawa Fuseini to remove his name from the contestants or face court action.
