Fuel tanker drivers cancel strike

Fuel tanker drivers in Ghana have ended their sit-down strike over poor working conditions.

The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union had initiated the indefinite strike on Tuesday, demanding better conditions of service, particularly regarding remuneration.

Following a meeting with all stakeholders, the drivers released a communiqué announcing the end of the strike.

The communiqué stated that the framework for their remuneration has been adopted and is expected to be implemented by the end of June 2024.

At a press conference, union members stated that despite an agreed-upon policy framework aimed at improving their salaries and working conditions, pending since November 2023, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the sector Ministry have refused to implement it.
